ODPS Ohio Traffic Safety Office Click It or Ticket

2009 Click It or Ticket Enforcement Mobilization

Click It or Ticket is a national seat belt mobilization that runs from May 18 through May 31, 2009. This year, 952 law enforcement partners have signed up to support the campaign through activities and enforcement hours.

In 2008, the Click It or Ticket mobilization ran from May 19 - June 1. There were a total of 938 agencies that participated and a total of 637 that reported their activity to the Ohio Traffic Safety Office. These agencies reported a total of 127,675 enforcement hours specifically on seat belt enforcement during this period. These partners wrote a total of 20,630 restraint citations along with 289 child seat citations in 2008.

Despite these efforts, there were still 22 people who died in traffic crashes during this period that had seat belts available to them but were not buckled up. In addition, during this same period, those not buckled up and involved in crashes suffered 137 incapacitating injuries and 249 non-incapacitating injuries just during this two-week time period. These numbers could have been reduced if drivers and occupants of the vehicles would have been buckled up.

In 2009, efforts will continue to enforce Ohio's seat belt law and remind everyone to buckle up - day and night!
